Dear HOPAC families, Alumni & Partners, Haven of Peace Academy is committed to preparing your student for their path after they leave us. The work of the University Counselling Office is one of prayerful guidance and consultation with parents, the student, and teachers. The framework for our tasks with students is: “The steps of a good man are ordered by God (Psalms 37:23).” God has ordered your son or daughters steps, it is the role of the University Counselling Office to help students discover their God-given identity, talents, gifts, and desires of their hearts by addressing career and college readiness. We want students to find the path that God has already prepared for them according to his purpose and will (Ephesians 2:10). Starting in lower secondary school through A levels, students are engaged by the Academic Counsellor through the Life Skills course, small groups, and individual appointments about the following career and college preparation:
We want students to find the path that God has already prepared for them according to his purpose and will (Ephesians 2:10). Starting in lower secondary school through A levels, students are engaged by the Academic Counsellor through the Life Skills course, small groups, and individual appointments about the following career and college preparation:
Year 9 (8th grade)- Students learn about the importance of time management, creating a work ethic, integrity, developing good academic habits, and an introduction to college related terms.
Year 10 (9th grade)- Students focus on understanding themselves. They will explore questions that cover: What are my interests?; What new things do I want to try during high school?; What are my goals for the future?; and What types of careers are there?
Year 11 (10th grade)-Students will continue learning about themselves at an in-depth level. Students will take several formalized assessments and conduct research on various careers. They will analyse how those careers fit with their academic course work, interests, talents, skills and what areas they need to develop as they continue into A levels.
Year 12 (11th grade)-Students will do a deep dive into research on careers and begin to examine how God has fashioned them and how it creates a path to university, the workplace, or further exploration and strengthening of talents. Additionally, students research scholarships, academic enrichment programs, and work and service opportunities that provide a holistic perspective of them as a student.
Year 13 (12th grade)-Students will create their college list, develop their writing skills for college essays and scholarships, understand the application and financial aid processes, and receive wisdom on how best to transition to the path God is calling them to.
To help facilitate the career and college readiness work, HOPAC uses the (to be determined) platform. This platform allows for students to systemically and strategically plan for career and college readiness. Through this platform parents, students, teachers, and the academic counsellor are able to review the progress of students along their journey.
To assist families with this process while working and talking together at home, the University Counselling Office has developed a website of resources where information can be found on:

I am looking forward to praying and working with families and students to prepare for the next steps along the path of life.
